Scenario Planning
Competitive Intelligence & Managing Uncertainty

Competitor Intelligence Development includes developing intelligence on one or more current and/or  future competitors.  Using a top-down modular approach, along with a priority list on targeted competitors, companies can easily customize a competitor framework that can expand based on your priorities.

The future is uncertain, very uncertain.

There are two ways for companies to deal with uncertainty.

1. Ignore it, and be totally reactionary.

2. Deal with it by planning for a range of possible "unplanned events" in order to be best prepared with a set of action plans.

Using a structured approach, events can be categorized and grouped by priority, likelihood of occurrence, as well as different action steps required.  Even a high-level (one page) plan of action for major, unplanned events can save companies a lot of time and money.  The inability of major companies to quickly and appropriately respond to "unforeseen"  events is the result of poor planning - even if one can legitimately say "this has never happened before and there was no way we could have planned for this."

Even one-day, ad-hoc scenario planning sessions are very valuable - although structured sessions built upon a common understanding of industry structure and competitive positioning will provide additional insights.
