The purpose of this section is to identify key physical
locations and to profile their information technology inventory in terms of
hardware, software, communication facilities, and data used. In practice, it
is often convenient to lump similar types of office locations if they use
basically the same information technology architecture.
This simple status report is an effective means to help rationalize the
proliferation of divergent technologies used throughout the company. The
larger the company and the more physical locations, the more important this
report becomes.
