Structured Review / Walkthrough
Review sessions are best when a cross-section of functional managers are
present along with the SBU management team.
A few weeks prior to an SBU review session, it is often beneficial to have a
structured walkthrough. Some of the differences between a review session and a
structured walkthrough are that in a structured walkthrough:
- The management of the presenter(s) is not allowed to attend;
- Nobody can be found guilty because nobody is on trial;
- A cross section of professionals must attend, and they must read
the materials before the walkthrough session begins;
- All comments must be made in a constructive format, and every
comment, suggestion and idea is written down by a designated scribe;
- Presenters are free to use the comments or not use the comments as
they see fit.
Information systems professionals, especially in high-technology industries,
are most familiar with the concept of structured walkthroughs. There is a great
need to be open, to share ideas, and to constructively improve upon a plan or
