Porter and other industry leaders, plus hundreds of practical suggestions learned over the years as a corporate planner and independent consultant.

2000-2001           OneBeacon Insurance; VP of Strategic Planning & E-Business Development

Responsibilities included corporate wide strategic planning for all business units and cost centers. Also responsible for leading the implementation of e-business initiatives to exploit Internet opportunities, with emphasis on expanding products and services, reducing expenses, providing productivity gains and enhanced agent and customer service.   As Chairman of IT Operating Committee, I led business & IT senior executives to prioritize I/T initiatives in concert with corporate business objectives.

 

1995-2000           IBM Corporation; Global Industries

Senior Marketing Manager 1999 – 2000.   Insurance and Financial Services Division:  Responsible for IBM Global Solutions marketing plans for global financial services firms.

Strategic Planner 1997 – 1999.  All Industries:  Responsible for group and business unit strategic planning methodologies and plan development for IBM Global Solutions. Developed a comprehensive strategic planning framework for planning at web speed. 

Manager of Product Management 1995 1996.  Led product management effort for IBM led bank consortium to build a robust Internet platform for half of the top 25 U.S. banks.


1993-1995           Structured Strategic Planning; Principal

Provided executive seminars and strategic planning consulting.  Managed all facets of the business. Consulting assignments included fast-paced development of corporate and business unit strategies. Competitive advantage was achieved via superior templates that incorporated the best strategic planning methodologies into one, seamless, structured framework that was easy to implement.

1992 - 1993         Home Insurance Company; Vice President & Corporate Planner

Designed and implemented corporate, group, and business unit strategies in order to gain a competitive advantage and achieve profit objectives.  Trained senior executives on topics including: Industry Structure Analysis; Competitive Positioning; Mergers, Acquisitions & Alliances; Global Strategy; Business Modeling and Value Chain Analysis; Shareholder Value Analysis; Linking Business and I/T Plans; and Competitor Intelligence Systems.   

 1984 - 1992        Chemical Bank, now J. P. Morgan Chase; Vice President, Strategic Planning

1986-1992:  Responsible for strategic planning for 32 lines of business. The planning process included industry analysis, competitive analysis, value chain analysis, product and information technology planning.  Performed competitor intelligence analyses. 

                             1984-1986:  Vice President; Applications Development Manager

Managed the development of financial products for corporate customers located worldwide. Developed treasury management workstation products and a host of other cash-management related products.

 1983 - 1984         McKinsey & Company; Senior Systems Analyst

Responsible for: analysis, design and development of financial and administrative systems used by McKinsey offices worldwide.  Supervised: systems analysts and programmers. 

 1979 - 1983         G.E. Information Services Company; Consultant / Project Manager

Managed the development of major financial systems.  Example: Responsible for nineteen individuals in the redesign of a real-time cash management system for a major U.S. bank.  It was the most widely used cash management system in the world. 

1977 - 1979         Continental Insurance; Financial and Systems Analyst

Designed and programmed a corporate wide computer model used by the Chairman and other top executives for corporate strategic planning.
